Description

Plums are a diverse group of species. Commercially important plum trees are medium in size and are usually pruned to a height of 5–6 m (16–20 ft). This tree has medium hardness.[12] Unpruned trees can reach a height of 12 m (39 ft) and a spread of 10 m (33 ft). They bloom in different months in different parts of the world. For example, around January in Taiwan and early April in the UK.[13]

Fruits are usually medium-sized, 2–7 cm (0.79–2.76 in) in diameter, globose to oval. The meat is firm and juicy. The skin of the fruit is smooth and has a natural waxy surface that sticks to the flesh. The plum is a drupe, meaning its fleshy fruit surrounds a hard fruit stone that encloses the seed.
