Description

A shrub or small tree growing 5–10 m (16–33 ft) tall, the pomegranate has many spiny branches and is long-lived, with some specimens in France surviving up to 200 years.[4] The leaves of P. granatum are opposite or opposite, glossy, narrowly oblong, entire, 7–3 cm (1⁄4–2+3⁄4 in) and 2 cm (3⁄4 in) wide. The flowers are bright red, 3 cm (1⁄4+in) in diameter, with three to seven petals.[4] Some fruitless varieties are grown for flowers alone.[13]
